Cherkasy Regional Perinatal Center Receives Modern Evacuation Equipment for Newborns

Representatives from the AMOR Ukraine Health Organization have handed over a ventilator and a transport incubator to the Cherkasy Regional Perinatal Center. This equipment was purchased with financial support from Kimberly-Clark Ukraine and the Huggies brand. This will provide even more opportunities to save the lives of newborns.

The modern Babypod transport incubator allows for the reliable and safe transportation of newborn and premature babies, maintaining the necessary temperature. The incubator is equipped with a high-class T6 Amoul ventilator designed for babies weighing from 500 grams. The kit also includes heated mattresses to ensure a thermal chain during transportation and surgical procedures, as well as necessary accessories for the equipment.

Currently, the equipment has been installed in the intensive care unit for newborns at the Cherkasy Regional Perinatal Center.

"We have collaborated with the AMOR Ukraine Health Organization before and are very grateful to all representatives of the fund, Kimberly-Clark Ukraine, and the Huggies brand for their care in preserving the lives and health of our smallest patients," said Natalia Lakusta, Acting Deputy Medical Director for Obstetric and Gynecological Care at the Cherkasy Regional Hospital.

"A ventilator is a very important component for the resuscitation of newborns. Our intensive care unit treats deeply premature babies who may need artificial lung ventilation for a long time: two, three, or even four months. Sometimes even full-term babies cannot breathe on their own. Currently, there are ten children being treated in the unit, six of whom are in very serious condition. At any moment, babies from the pregnancy pathology department may be born. Therefore, ventilators are constantly needed. With the help of the transport incubator, we will be able to safely transfer children from one medical facility to another if necessary."

Natalia Lakusta also added that the percentage of premature births has significantly increased across Ukraine, now exceeding 5%. In the Cherkasy Regional Perinatal Center alone, 25 more premature babies were born in 2023 compared to 2022. Therefore, such equipment will undoubtedly help doctors save the lives of the smallest patients.

Considering the rate of premature births in Ukraine, the challenging circumstances in our country, the full-scale invasion, and constant stress, Kimberly-Clark Ukraine, in collaboration with the Huggies brand, initiated this project to help children.

"Other perinatal centers in Ukraine have also received such evacuation kits, as our partners understand well that saving the lives of premature babies requires modern approaches and the latest technologies," said Oleg Sytnyk, Director of the AMOR Ukraine Health Organization.

The staff of the Cherkasy Regional Hospital and Perinatal Center are grateful to the benefactors for this important support, as well as to the representatives of the fund, Oleg Sytnyk, Dmytro Ovechkin, and Andriy Koloda, for the delivery, installation, and conducted master class on the use of the equipment.
